The WellTools Hi-Torq Hydraulic Anchor is designed to provide the operator with a method of selectively fixing the toolstring at any point in the wellbore. The Anchor is run in the collapsed position until the desired point in the well is reached. By simply increasing the flowrate through the tool the Anchor Grapples will expand to the tubing wall and the Anchor will remain fixed. Picking up weight on the toolstring will cause the Anchor to bite into the tubing wall and the flowrate can be reduced if desired. To release the Anchor simply stop pumping and slack-off weight to move the Grapple into the release position. The toolstring can now be removed from the well. If the Anchor does not release conventionally the tool incorporates a drop ball emergency release which allows the Grapple to collapse.
